Project Rachel - Hope After Abortion

Written by

Forgiveness. Hope. Healing. These are the three words that you see when you visit the webpage of Project Rachel - hopeafterabortion.com. These three things are what the woman who is suffering the horrible consequences of an abortion needs.

“It's normal to grieve a pregnancy loss, including the loss of a child by abortion. It can form a hole in one's heart, a hole so deep that sometimes it seems nothing can fill the emptiness.” But you are not alone, there is a beautiful ministry of people who want to help you.

After an Abortion, an experience extremely unnatural for a woman´s body and her maternal instinct, negative reactions are to be expected. Among others, some of these reactions are guilt, discomfort with children, feelings of anger, depression, grief, increased alcohol use, crying, inability to communicate and feeling suicidal. Post-abortion reactions are specific and identifiable. They originate mainly from the problem of denial and suppression of feelings. When we suppress one of our emotions it affects all of them. This is the basis of post-abortion trauma: the denial of the baby and the denial of our feelings.

Project Rachel has existed for more than fifteen years as an outreach of the Catholic Church to women, men, and families who have been affected by abortion. These people can find in the Church a place of healing. The Church will tell them the truth about abortion, and help those who are contemplating such action. “Don’t do it! It is wrong and it will hurt you and the baby,” and it will tell them the whole truth: “If you have already had an abortion, God’s mercy is great enough to forgive that too.” Forgiveness and healing is what the Lord wants to give us.

Project Rachel can be contacted by phone. To find the center nearest you, go to www.hopeafterabortion.com and click on the tab “Find Help”, there you can choose your state and see a list of centers in your state.

Or you can call the nationwide toll-free number 888-456-HOPE (4673)

On their website, Project Rachel invites you to share your testimony anonymously on their message board. Their hope is that from reading your stories others can find help and support in their search for healing and reconciliation after abortion.
