My blog “Father's Floreat”

Dane Baird has been a witness member of the Home of the Mother for 3 years. He has two daughters, Jean and Susannah. The newest addition to the family is Halo, wonder-dog! His profession is teaching autistic children and he enjoys acting in several parish and diocesan ministries, as well as supporting the Home of the Mother.

His blog is called "Fathers Floreat!" Floreat is a word he heard on retreat, it is latin for to flourish, to bloom. Men should be blossoming according to God's plan.

Battle Readiness

I kept turning to the same page in what seemed a random occurrence. Have you ever played Bible Roulette? Just open and start reading. I was doing the same with Mary of Agreda’s City of God, i.e., her visions regarding Jesus’ public ministry and His mother’s instrumental role in supporting Her Son in the Father’s great effort to redeem souls

Being Truly Present

Written by

Jesus’ public ministry was a ministry of presence. Being present to His apostles. Being present to married couples, the poor and all sinners. He was present, challenging the Pharisees on their contrived piety and endless rules that might never convert their own hearts to His Father. When He was alone, He was praying, so, again, He was fully present. He was present, this time, to the empowering Father, someone who could renew our Lord’s spirit and body as He martialed on in his mission of the salvation of souls. This was a God of presence, being present.

I can't help but love Saint John Paul II and Pope Benedict the XVIs' 1992 joint-writing endeavor, the Catechism of The Catholic Church, as the two authors relate Christ’s teachings to the world in a clear, heart-provoking and beautiful manner.

Entertaining Strangers

Recently, I found myself in front of the house, doing a project. This is a rarity, in that, for most of the past year, I've been renovating the inside of the house. I haven't really had time to do the exterior work. At least not yet. And it was especially rare, on this particular day, to be in the front yard, as I was supposed to be elsewhere. But plans get reconfigured, derailed at times for a reason. And this reason was....Mandi!

Cutting the Cord for Christ

So, there I was, doing what my conscience told me not to do! I knew hanging the television in our newly renovated home was a mistake. There's just too much media content that is not good for me and certainly not good for my children. I had heard once that 80% of all media moguls are atheists and this is easy to believe; just watch recently released movies and situational comedies and the godlessness in the media is very apparent. But there I was, trying to install the television; bad habits are hard to change.
